Proper flea control is crucial when trying to control itching and biting. We’ve asked our holisitic veterinarian and he still recommends topical treatment like Frontline or Advantix. There are other holistic remedies, but truthfully, they just don’t work as well. Nobody wants fleas....especially your dog.
There are a variety of situations that can cause digestion issues. Here are a few situations and how we can help. Changing to a new food can often cause stomach upset. We recommend gradually introducing your pet to a new food by mixing in ½ new food with ½ current food for 2 weeks to insure a good transition. Medications can often cause digestion issues: We recommend supplementing food with yogurt, pumpkin or sweet potato to help soothe upset tummies. Digestive enzymes and probiotics are a good regular supplement to aid in digestion and keep ‘good’ bacteria in the digestive system.
Probably the most common problem we see in pets is dry or itchy/flaky coat. It’s miserable for the pet. Finding a food that can alleviate symptoms is the first choice. Additionally, salmon oil (daily pump onto their food) is a great way to add Omega 3 & 6 (?) to their diet. Soothing oatmeal or tea tree shampoo can also help with itchy coats. We also offer some topical applications that can offer some relief.
Kidney issues are most common in cats, but are a problem for dogs as well. Preventive measures are important to make sure the kidneys are functioning at their best before problems arise.
Larger dogs and older dogs are prone to joint issues. Joint issues can be helped by several options. Maintaining a healthy weight is the BEST option for preventing joint pain in your pet. Just like humans, the more weight on their joints, the more pain they must endure. Help them by working to get them to a healthy weight. Glucosamine chondroitin and hyraluronic acid show good results in alleviating joint pain. We offer supplements and treats with joint help.
One recommendation for larger breeds is to start them off with a food specially formulated for large breeds.
